At the heart of Honeywell Arts & Entertainment’s mission is a simple idea. The arts should be accessible to everyone, no matter their background, experience level, or age. This vision continues to guide Arts For All, a regional effort that invites people into meaningful creative experiences that build confidence and connection. In the past year alone, 475 participants, ranging in age from 6 to 96, from 19 counties across Indiana, took part in camps, classes, workshops, and lessons - 32% were first-time participants. This growth reflects not only expanding reach, but also a deepening sense of community connection as more people discover the value of accessible arts engagement.
Within this broad impact, one offering has become a powerful reminder of how deeply the arts can shape well-being. Senior Perspectives, launched in 2024 with support from a grant from the Indiana Arts Commission, offers visual art classes for older adults, created in partnership with Living Well in Wabash County. Classes are held at the Winchester Senior Center and Eagles Theatre, which offer accessible, older adult-focused spaces well-suited for this type of hands-on instruction. In 2025, support from the Community Foundation of Wabash County’s Good Deeds Grant enabled Honeywell to subsidize participation fees and ensure these impactful arts experiences remained accessible and affordable. Today, classes continue to fill quickly, showing how meaningful and in-demand these creative opportunities are for older adults. This thoughtful pilot initiative, built around strong community interest, established a sustainable model, demonstrating the lasting effect that consistent arts experiences can have. The program is shaped around connection, exploration, and confidence-building. Participants gather in a supportive space led by Honeywell teaching artists who encourage them to try new techniques, reflect on their personal stories, and build skills at a comfortable, encouraging pace. Many participants describe the experience as both energizing and grounding, a chance to reconnect with creativity in a way that feels meaningful and accessible.
For many, the impact is transformative. Clista Wertenberger Alger shared that before joining, she often felt isolated and disconnected from her community, a challenge common among older adults who face transportation and financial barriers. “These workshops are more than just an opportunity to create art,” she wrote. “They provide a space for connection, self-expression, and personal growth that is truly life-changing.” Through the classes, she discovered new friendships, renewed purpose, and the excitement of seeing her artwork displayed publicly. The opportunity to share her creations with others strengthened her confidence and her voice. “The sense of belonging this program fosters is invaluable.”
The impact extends beyond individual stories. Beverly Ferry of Living Well in Wabash County emphasized how closely the classes align with nationally recognized best practices in creative aging. Professionally led arts experiences for older adults have documented benefits, including improved mental and physical health, stronger balance, increased social engagement, and, in many cases, fewer falls and reduced medication needs. “Older adults in Wabash County need this,” she wrote. “Senior Perspectives is a true catalyst for well-being.” Her insight reflects what many participants express themselves. The program provides not only artistic instruction but also emotional connection, routine, and a meaningful sense of belonging.
Each session culminates in a public exhibition at the Honeywell Center, where participants share their artwork with family, friends, and the broader community. These exhibitions celebrate older adults as creators, storytellers, and contributors to the community. They also reinforce a central message at the heart of Arts For All. The arts are for everyone, at every age, and every participant has a story worth telling.
As Honeywell continues expanding meaningful arts experiences across the region, Senior Perspectives stands as a powerful example of how creativity can strengthen confidence, build connection, and enrich the lives of older adults. Through these visual art classes, participants are not only learning techniques. They are finding community, empowerment, and a renewed sense of joy.
